Katingan Peatland Restoration and Conservation Project
Location: Indonesia
The Katingan Restoration and Conservation Project protects and restores 149,800 hectares of peatland ecosystems in the districts of Katingan and Kotawaringin Timur, Central Kalimantan Province, Indonesia. It aims to preserve one of the largest remaining intact peat swamp forests in the country, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support biodiversity, and provide sustainable income sources for local communities.
Anhuang Afforestation
Location: China
Located in Guizhou Province, China, this reforestation project covers 39,000 hectares of previously barren and degraded land across Huangping, Wengan, and Anlong Counties. By planting native species such as China fir, Masson pine, and Cypress, the initiative aims to sequester greenhouse gases, enhance biodiversity, and improve soil and water conservation in the fragile karst landscape.
The project supports local communities by creating 28,500 jobs—60% of which benefit women—and contributes to sustainable development goals. Over a 30-year period, it is expected to remove approximately 18.2 million tonnes of CO₂, with an average annual reduction of over 600,000 tonnes. All land used is owned by villagers and managed by local village committees.
Greening Malaysia
Location: Malaysia
An initiative by Malaysia’s Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change to raise awareness about the importance of forest conservation and reinforce the nation’s commitment to preserving forest areas.
